The Air Filter is the first protection of the engine intake system, which is divided into**main filter element(inner core+outer core)**,also known as safety inner core or safety filter element. The engine requires a large amount of air to do work. The air filter filters out dust, sand, and willow catkins in the air, supplying clean air to the Turbocharger and cylinder combustion chamber to prevent hard particles from entering the cylinder and causing wear on the piston, cylinder liner, and valves.
The external air first passes through an external filter to filter out most of the large particles of dust, and then passes through a safety core for secondary protection; When the outer filter is damaged, the inner core acts as the last line of defense to block impurities. The structure mainly includes paper filter material, rubber sealing ring, and metal support mesh. The filter paper has fine micropores that allow air to pass through and intercept solid dust.
Mining and earthmoving sites have extremely high dust emissions, and the air filtration load is also very high;Once the filter element is damaged and fails, dust will directly enter the cylinder, which will quickly cause cylinder liner strain, piston wear, large exhaust, oil burning, and severe engine overhaul.Air filter failure generally does not trigger an alarm, and some excavators are equipped with air intake blockage alarm sensors.Typical phenomena:decreased engine power, black smoke, increased fuel consumption, air leakage and dust at the interface of the air filter housing.
The air filter is a high-frequency maintenance component that can be temporarily maintained by blowing dust, but cannot be used repeatedly indefinitely.Blowing dust can only clean the surface floating dust, and small particles will be embedded inside the filter paper fibers. After multiple blows, the strength of the filter paper will decrease and it is easy to break. Many engine owners overuse air filters and end up paying a high cost for engine maintenance.Proper maintenance of the air filter is the most cost-effective way to protect the engine.
