The excavator engine Belt is a core component of the accessory transmission system, commonly divided into two categories:triangular V-belts and multi wedge serpentine belts. It is mainly used to transmit crankshaft power and drive auxiliary components such as cooling fans,Water Pumps, generators, and air conditioning compressors to operate. Many operators think that the belt is just a simple rubber part, but they do not know that once the belt breaks, the fan and water pump will stop working, the engine will quickly heat up,the generator will stop generating electricity, causing the battery to lose power, directly leading to the shutdown of the construction site, and even causing major faults such as engine cylinder pulling.
Multi wedge belt, also known as PK belt,is widely used in new electronic fuel injection excavators.Multiple wedge teeth and pulleys are fully fitted, resulting in smooth transmission, low slip probability, and small space occupation.Older models often use independent V-belts,with one belt driving one component and multiple belts used in combination. The internal structure of the belt is composed of strong fiber ropes as the load-bearing skeleton, and the outer layer is made of high and low temperature resistant rubber. The power transmission is completed by the friction between the rubber and the pulley groove, without the need for gear meshing.
The engine crankshaft pulley outputs rotational power and distributes torque to various accessories through a belt. The operation of the water pump drives the circulation and heat dissipation of the coolant; The fan rotates to cool down the radiator; The generator runs to supply power to the entire vehicle's electrical system and charge the battery; The air conditioning compressor is responsible for cooling the cab.The automatic tensioner is responsible for continuously maintaining the reasonable tightness of the belt to prevent slipping. The working environment is extremely harsh, with long-term exposure to high temperatures, dust, oil pollution, and vibration in the engine compartment, constantly bending and withstanding alternating tensile forces, making it a high loss and vulnerable component.
Belt faults do not have complex alarms in advance, and are mostly manifested in the form of abnormal noise, high temperature, and no charging. The rubber hardness is relatively high in the cold state, but after the car is heated, the rubber becomes softer and the elasticity improves.Oil and diesel splashing onto the surface of the belt can corrode the rubber, causing it to expand and delaminate, directly shortening its service life.Even if the equipment is not parked, the rubber will naturally age, harden, and crack.
The accessories of the belt itself are not expensive, but the chain consequences of failure are very serious.By fully understanding the working logic of the belt and conducting daily visual inspections to promptly detect cracks, slippage, and abnormal noises,it is possible to avoid sudden belt breakage, mitigate the risk of engine high-temperature damage, and ensure the continuous and stable operation of the excavator.
